24 HOUR COMIC BOOK DAY & OTHER STUFF

August 30, 2011

It just occurred to me that I didnt even be putting a link in me earlier blog for my web comic site.  Well let me do that now before I gets distracted… Oh , something shiny!  What was i doing?… oh yeah… BUBBAWORLD COMIX is my web comic site, it is.  Now that I think about it I might have linked it… I’m not sure.  Well, I’m too lazy to check and see so it is most definitely linked here.  I do six humor titles .  One title for each day of the week.  That’s freakin’ awesome.  Seymour is my editor… did I mention that Seymour is my cat?… No…. well he is my cat.  I’ve been his human for over 16 years now.  My that’s a long time.  I dont know what I would do if something happened to him. Yes I do, I would run around my front yard screaming incoherently (  I spelled “incoherently” right the first time, I almost never get that word right ) while ripping my clothes and throwing myself down to the ground while beating my fists in the dirt.  My neighbors will probably just think , “Oh, it’s just another Tuesday night at that nutter cartoonist’s house again.”  Maybe I shouldnt do that so often… oh well.  Seymour is a good editor , … well he’s cheap.  He literally works for catfood.  He does seem to like the comics I show him though.  Of course he may realize he’s getting catfood if he approves of them.

24 HOUR COMIC BOOK DAY!! It’s going to be on Oct 1st.  I will be participating in it.  What is it you say, I will tells ya.  You draw comics for 24 hours straight.  I’m gonna be some kind of loopy by the end of that I tell ya what.  Rambling more than usual I bet.  I will be on the FACEBOOK updating my status as I go.  Some other cartoonists might be joining me online.  Every October I do a special comic where I cross all six titles into one humorous Halloween story called TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD.  Last year it was ” ATTACK OF THE WERECLOWN ” .  This year it will be , ” THE LEGEND OF THE MONKEY WOLF DOG “.  Fun I tells ya.  This will be my 24 hour comic.  I will be working on it that whole weekend and trying to get it ready to post to me site early the following week.  If you want to follow my loopyness on the FACEBOOK  then I’ve just linked the event page for you to go to.  If you want to friend me on the FACEBOOK then my page is linked to the word SUPERCALIFRASTICESPIALIDOSHIOUS  … Why did I link to that word you say?  I havent the foggiest idea why actually.  This is an event you can follow online from the comfort of your own home …. unless your home isn’t comfortable.  You can even comment and post as we draw for 24 hours straight just for your amusement.  Saturday October 1st from 10 a.m. till 10 a.m. the next day.  I’m pretty sure Seymour will be napping 23 of those 24 hours.

And once again you can find of of me books HERE, just follow the link.  You can get them in the traditional print format or as a download.  The downloads are cheaper and you can get more for less.  I’ve got 8 books out now.  Four are humor comic strip collections, Two are humor Halloween specials ( the TALES books I’ve mentioned earlier ) and Two are actual Horror Graphic Novels.  That’s right, I do Horror too.  I’m just versatile I tells ya.

Gotta go, but remember….. If you have a song stuck in your head, you might as well dance to it.

See Ya In The Funny Web Pages.

Heroes & Dreams Signing

October 6, 2010

the HEROES & DREAMS anniversary will be Oct 16th in Flowood , MS.  That’s on a Saturday peoples, get out and check them out.  I will be there with my books and art.  I will have the new BUBBAWORLD COMIX GAS GIANT  Vol 1 with me.  The 406 page pdf file book on CD.

Here’s a couple of pictures of the CD books after I’ve done the original artwork for the CD case.  The Chicken and Clown in these pictures have already been sold but the great thing is I can draw more Chickens and Clowns at any time. The first four BWC books and a bunch of extras as a CD book for only $20.

Along with the GAS GIANT book on CD I will have two new “traditional” books with me.  TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD: IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN MASSACRE DR BROWN.  This book also contains the brand new content never before seen on the web ZACK THE ZOMBIE HUNTER.  I will also have the MISFITS & MAYHEM VOL 2 with me.  Check out the Check someone used to by the new horror graphic novel and Halloween Humor special with.  ( important info has been whited out ).

isn’t it ironic, I really do think.

I will also have my art and sketch cards with me.

BOOK ON CD

September 9, 2010

I have just gotten thru with putting THREE books together.  I will do another post about the first two later when they come in but right now I want to talk about the BUBBAWORLD COMIX GAS GIANT SIZED VOLUME ONE.

This is an experiment I’m trying out.  I have made a PDF file book on CD.  It contains the first three volumes of the Bubbaworld Comix collection books.  That means all six titles are in this 406 page book.  QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR – “METAL IN THE MICROWAVE” , MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS – “WHO ARE YOU GONNA BELIEVE, ME OR 25 HYSTERICAL NUNS” , SPACE REDNECKS – ” HOUSTON, SUMPTHIN AINT RIGHT UP HERE” , GOING BATTY – ” MOB MENTALITY ”  ,  CAPN’ GEEZER – ” PORT O POTTIE TIME MACHINES, OH MY! ”  &  DAWN OF TIME – ” WARM SPOT IN THE GENE POOL”  Then I also included the eleven page Capn’ Geezer’s April Fool Special.  There’s a bonus comics section with one panel gag comics that I’ve done at signings and cons.  There’s even a section called “The Evolution Of BubbaWorld Comix” that shows the growth from a paper to the web and teh different styles I have done on my comics.  And there is also the TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD VOL ONE book included it too.

All this for just $20.  And I also throw in an original sketch that fits in the front of the CD case.  You can find this book (with my regular traditional books) at my BUBBAWORLD COMIX website on the store page or you can just email me at bubbaworldcomix (at) gmail (dot) com   .   I’ll take checks or money orders and even pay pal.  Just email me if you’re interested in getting one of these CD books.  I like the traditional books to hold in my hand but I read so much on the computer now and spend so much time on it I probably would buy these types of books from the cartoonists I support if they had them.  Also I prefer human interaction over computer automation.  Each email is read by me and each order is handled by me.

If you want a really good deal on a lot of comics and want to support a cartoonist so he can make more comics for your enjoyment then order this book and I’ll see you in the funny web pages.

OCTOBER CATCH UP

November 2, 2009

The month of October was a busy month, I’ll tell you what. It started with the Van’s Artist Alley in Ridgeland. Steven Butler & Roland Mann were able to make it and my artist friends Chuck Jett and Kevin Hayman were there. Shane Sullivan, who wrote half the stories in the MISFITS & MAYHEM graphic novel, was there with me. The crowd that day wasn’t that impressive but the comradely between all the artists made up for it. We had a great day hanging out with each other and talking comics and being silly. After the show we all went next door to get a sandwich and spent over two hours just hanging out talking and eating.

The following Saturday was spent at the Heroes & Dreams store in Flowood. It’s always a blast hanging out with the Heroes crew, this includes the workers and the regulars. We had a good showing and sold some books I had all three titles with me and Shane Sullivan joined me again. I even sold some artwork and all in all I did better that the last time I had a signing at H&D. And I do need to point out that Meridian really represented themselves with a their group that came to Flowood for the signing.

The following weekend was the Imagicopter autors meeting. There were plenty of authors but the crowd was low. I still wouldn’t have missed it just for the friends I made at it and the conversations all the authors had “comparing notes”. I really enjoyed meeting C. Liegh McInnis and talking with him.

I had nothing planned for the third weekend and enjoyed some time not having to be anywhere and gave us time to get ready for the signing at Starkville on Main Street at the Book Mart. I wond up postponing it due to the bad weather we had on the 30th.

I will be back at Heroes & Dreams Nov 7th. They’re having a special thing going on to celebrate 3 years of being in business. They have Mitch Byrd signing books and some other local artists. They invited me back so I’m definitely will be there. I will be there all day enjoying myself selling me books and artwork to anyone I can. It will be cool to hang out with Wade Acuff again, he’s one of the local artists that will be there too. It will really be cool to hang out with Mitch for the day.

I also had my new TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD Halloween special up at my BUBBAWORLD COMIX site. I’m leaving it up for the month of November.

I have other projects that I’m working on that I will talk about in future blogs.

Halloween Special Web Comics

October 23, 2009

Every year I do a special Halloween themed comic, TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD, at my website BUBBAWORLDCOMIX.COM that overlaps all six of my humor web comic titles.  This year, 2009, will be the fourth such special with “IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN MASSACRE DR BROWN”.

I have just released a book containing the first 3 of these TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD specials this month and it can be found at my BUBBAWORLDCOMIX.COM website.  Where I do humor Halloween themed stories with my daily web comic titles I have also released a Horror Graphic Novel, MISFITS & MAYHEM, that can also be purchased at my site.

The TALES special will be up all month during October and possibly November in it’s entirity.  The website itself will continue with it’s normal daily updates also.

VAN’S ARTIST ALLEY UPDATE

September 23, 2009

We are getting closer, and closer to the Van’s artist alley in Ridgeland, MS on Hwy 51 at Van’s Comics & Cards.  There will be seven tables of Cartoonists and Writers there selling there art and books.

I ,bubbaworldcomix.com , will  be there with 3 new books myself.  BUBBAWORLD COMIX VOL ONE which contains a collection of strips from my two titles, QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR and MISSISSIPPIS SWAMP DRAGONS.   The second book is a Halloween special , TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD.  This one uses all six of my humor titles in Halloween themed stories.  They are specials that I have put up in the past three years on my website that I have collected in a book.  The third book is an actual Horror Graphic Novel, MISFITS & MAYHEM.  It even has it’s own Horror Host, Creepy Clyde.  It has six short horror stories, three written by me and three written by Shane Sullivan (who will be with me at Van’s Artist Alley).  All six stories were illistrated by me.

Be sure to tell everyone you know that would be interested in this to come out and support us.

GRAPHIC NOVELS UPDATE

September 16, 2009

I have ordered the MISFITS & MAYHEM horror graphic novel and should have them in shortly.  I have also ordered, at the same time, the TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD Halloween special for BubbaWorld Comix .

MISFITS & MAYHEM is a graphic novel containing six horror stories.  Three are written by me, Andy B. Childress.  Three are written by my friend, Shane Sullivan.  All six stories are drawn, inked, and lettered by me, Andy B. Childress.  I did this book in a totally different style from the way I do my humor strips.  TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD is a collection of Halloween themed stories involving all six of my humor strip titles that appear on the BubbaWorldComix.com website.  Some of the stories even cross over some or all of the titles.  Come October there will be a new TALES special on the website.  The book collects all the past specials that are not avaliable online any longer.  The new special will only be up for the month of October and will come down the month of November.  It will come out in book form next year with a special story that will appear only in the book.  The new story will contain never before seen characters that I have been working on.

I love Halloween web comic specials but have trouble finding any online any more.  So I do one every year.

I will be promoting the two new books all thru October.  I have signings lined up for four of the five weekends of October.  The first three Saturdays will be in Jackson, MS.  Oct 3 will be at Van’s Artist Alley in Ridgeland, MS held in Van’s Comics & Cards.  Oct 10 will be in Flowood, Ms at the Heroes & Dreams Comic Shop.  Oct 17 will be in the Eudora Weltly Library in Jackson, Ms with the Imagicopter group.  Oct 3o will be at the Book Mart on Main Street in Starkville, Ms.

I will be releasing a BubbaWorld Comix collection book every four months and also other graphic novels from time to time.  I have already written a manuscript for a sci fi time travel graphic novel 5 or 6 part saga.  I’m currently working on thumbnail layouts for the pages of the first book in the saga.  All this while keeping a six day a week update schedule on my comics website.

Misfits & Mayhem Graphic Novel Update

August 20, 2009

The Horror graphic novel that I have been working on for the last while is finally all penciled in.  Now I just have to ink in the MISFITS & MAYHEM and do a cover and put it together in me computer.  It will go quicker than it seems.  For one thing, 2 1/2 of the 6 stories are already inked in.  Inking goes quicker than the drawing of it.  By the middle of the last week of August I should be through with it…. the weekend at the lastest.  Then I just have to scan them in and set up the book and email it off.  Which means it will be with me at the Van’s Artist Alley in Ridgeland, MS on October 3rd.  Be sure to come by and get your copy along with the TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD BubbaWorld Comix Halloween Special that will come out on the same day.  There will also be six other tables of artists and writers there too.

Check out BUBBAWORLD COMIX for updates and comics.

MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS

September 28, 2008

You may wonder why I named a strip MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS. Well it’s simply because I can’t spell NANIH WAIYA consistently. It was going to be NANIH WAIYA SWAMP DRAGONS until I realized that I couldn’t spell it the same way twice & no one outside the county I live in could pronounce it right by looking at it in it’s written form….so I went with the MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS. Even in this article I’m cutting and pasting the name to make it easier on me.

The main characters are HERMAN THE PSYCHOTIC CHICKEN …. his best friend and neighbor KNOTHEAD THE CLOWN … the Swamp Dragons BILL & BUBBA …. FUZZYWHAT, a short furry something from a pocket dimension in HERMAN’S closet behind his boots. There are also plenty of secondary characters.

HERMAN lives with BILL & BUBBA the Swamp Dragons in a nice and homey cave in the back corner of the county. KNOTHEAD lives in a two story mobile home next door to them. HERMAN & KNOTHEAD tend to get into a lot of mischief, …. tormenting nuns ….. stealing Halloween candy from children …. tormenting nuns ….. aggravating MELVIN the Mailman ….. tormenting nuns …. picking on KILTBOY …..and most importantly….tormenting nuns.

Yes….KILTBOY crosses over and appears in this strip also. Some of the secondary characters are used in different strips even if it’s just in the background. Ironically, MELVIN the Mailman appears in the QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR strip where nobody believes him when he talks about being harassed by a psychotic chicken and a clown. I also need to point out that KNOTHEAD’s character is a very pessimistic clown.

HERMAN was the first character that I ever came up with that I planned to use in a comic strip. It took me a few years to figure out the strip around him. I originally teamed him up with a chimpanzee. It didn’t work for me. Telling a friend’s sister about the NANIH WAIYA Swamp Dragons one day and how they would jump on children’s beds and make the slats fall out and eat teddy bears and crush easter eggs gave me the idea for some more characters. I figured they were the perfect room mates for HERMAN. HERMAN more or less just sponges off of them. Later I wanted a really pessimistic clown and KNOTHEAD was born. He was the perfect running buddy for HERMAN. They have all sorts of adventures with the ’68 Buick Skylark that they modified into a hover craft ….I used to own a ’68 Buick Skylark and it was my favorite car. It belonged to my grandma, who bought it new before granddaddy died, and when she got a new car, a Buick Skylark, I acquired the ’68 and drove it all thru high school and college and many years after. I sold the car around 5 or 7 years ago and as far as I know it’s still on the road now. You could almost consider the car a secondary character.

The first 28 strips of this title are the first real strips that I’ve ever drawn. Thus they are the worst strips that I’ve ever written. I did not even use them in my paper when I was doing it and they do not appear in my archive. The second month started getting better and the wrtitting was improving. Then came the day me and my brother were talking and the creation of QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR came about. Ironically, it came about while riding in the appliance truck running service calls. I started working on the character development and writing strips and drawing them. I just completely forgot and ignored the MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGON strip during this time. I worked off and on for over a year on this strip. This was long before self publishing anything or drawing on a regular schedule and I was just stockpiling what I got done for use later. A year or more had past and I came across the strips that I had written for MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS and decided I needed to draw some more of them. I never even picked up the original 28 strips to look at them before I went back to drawing them. There is this process called evolution of a comic strip. You can look at early “Garfield’s” or early “Peanuts” strips and compare them to the latest versions and see what I’m talking about. The 28th strip and the 29th strip of this title doesn’t even look like it was drawn by the same person. There is a missing evolutionary link in this strip. That missing link is in the first 150 strips of QUICK APPLIANCE REPAIR. Just to show you what I mean, below is the 28th strip of MSD. I have never published it before.

Now compare it to the strip below, which is the 29th one, and see just how much difference there is.

Now just a reminder about TALES FROM THE APPLIANCE GRAVEYARD that will be starting this Wednesday October 1st at BUBBAWORLDCOMIX.NET .Be sure to check it out.

MISSISSIPPI SWAMP DRAGONS appears every Tuesday at BUBBAWORLDCOMIX.NET .
